Hawley Lutheran Church votes down resolution to leave ELCA

Members at Hawley (Minn.) Lutheran Church voted down a May 16 resolution to end their affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as the denomination continues to deal with fallout from its August decisions on sexuality.

  1. It would be interesting to see an article about the socio-economic characteristics of the chruches that are leaving versus the ones that are staying. My impression is that the larger and more urban churches, having perhaps congragations with more income, education and younger people, are staying while more rural congragations with less money, educational and older people are leaving. This would reflect the general national trend on accepting gays–and–reflect what happened with the civil rights movement decades ago.
