Here’s a link to today’s story on two North Dakota churches that voted not to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I also talked to the national office and got some updated figures on the number of churches nationally that have taken votes on whether or not to leave the ELCA. There are also numbers on congregation votes in our own region. You can read the story at: www.inforum.com/event/article/id/277062/
I chatted with Evangelical Lutheran Church in America spokesman John Brooks today and got an update on the number of churches voting on leaving (or not) the ELCA.
Of the almost 10,500 congregations in the denomination, 308 have taken first votes to leave, according to an April 7 report from the ELCA’s office of the secretary.
That’s just under 3 percent. Of those 308 votes, 221 passed. 89 congregations have passed second votes. I’ll roll these numbers into a story for tomorrow discussing two North Dakota congregations that voted on whether or not to leave the ELCA Sunday. The story also takes a broader look at the reaction in North Dakota churches to the controversial Churchwide Assembly decisions. You can check it out at www.inforum.com
